Frequently Asked Questions:
Is there a warranty?
Yes, all of our installations come with a three year warranty.
Is there a grant for electric car chargers?
Yes, SEAI provide a grant of €300 to homeowners who are having charging points installed on their homes. It is a very simple process where you enter some details, you will receive approval within a day or two and can then have your charger installed. It is important that you are approved by SEAI before you have your charger installed, Car Chargers Ireland will be able to help you with the forms if required.
Can you install a car charger at my workplace?
Yes, generally offices and workplaces have a higher power capacity than your average home so can support larger chargers. These larger ‘three phase’ chargers can charge electric vehicles up to three times faster than your home charger.
How does the process work?
You call us to arrange a survey. Our surveyor will call to your house and check some basic electrical items to ensure your house is suitable to have a charger installed. He will show you the options for the most suitable types of chargers. You will then be sent a quotation for the work and the installation will be carried out within a week. When completed, you will receive your paperwork for SEAI and they will transfer your €300 grant into your bank account.
Our goal is to have your charger installed within two weeks of you first contacting our office. Contact, survey, quote, schedule and install.
What does tethered/untethered mean?
A tethered charger has the cable built into the unit and it cannot be removed. The untethered charger does not have the cable built in so it can be removed and brought with you to use when charging away from home.
What's different between type 1 and type 2 chargers?
These are the two common types of chargers. In Ireland, the vast majority of chargers are type 2. Some cars come with a type 1 socket. You don’t need to worry about that as Car Chargers Ireland will supply you with the lead to suit.
Can I charge my car from my solar panels?
Yes, we supply and install chargers that can be set to use your solar panels as their primary power source.
Will the charger blow a fuse if I have my shower on at the same time?
No, all of our systems come with smart monitoring. This system is constantly checking the total electrical load being used by your house. If the load in the house becomes too high, for example if a shower, electric heating and an electric cooker are all on at the same time, the power to the charger will be restricted.
How quickly will my car charge?
Generally, a home single phase charger will take 6 to 7 hours for a full charge. A three-phase charger, usually in a work place, will take 2 to 3 hours for a full charge. This all obviously depends on the type of car and condition of the batteries etc.
